Leason learned No. 1: “Just fucking do it.”

With the end of the year upon us, I know there are a lot of people out there who will make New Year’s resolutions related to weight loss.

Maybe it’s “I’ll hit the gym three times a week this year” or “I’ll cut out the fast food” — I made those same promises to myself year after year for about a decade.

But it was four simple words, spoken like a swift kick in the ass, that gave me the final push to create this blog: “Just fucking do it.”

I was in the middle of bitching about my back pain to my friend Tim when he delivered those challenging words, but he was right. Talking about losing weight wasn’t going to get the pounds off. Action was required.

In turn, I thought I’d pass that advice on as we reflect on 2010 and get ready to renew our vows to ourselves in 2011.

If you’re thinking about losing weight to better your health and self-esteem, don’t hold off until Jan. 1.

Just fucking do it.

As for the scale: Today I weigh 244.4 lbs. I weighed 246.3 lbs. last Monday, my sixth week of blogging. That’s a one-week loss of 1.9 lbs. I started this blog weighing 258 lbs. That’s a total loss of 13.6 lbs.

I’m still not walking as much as I should, but I’m trying to be as strict as possible with my food, while still maintaining my sanity through the holidays. One day this week we had cookies, cake and donuts on the table at work and I didn’t touch a single one! Can’t say the same for the following day, but … whatever, lol.

  1. Well, I cant take total credit for that slogan. The good people at Nike have been saying it for years. But it is an easy way to stop being lazy. I always think, if I started when I first started complaining, i would be a few months into the program!

  2. CONGRATS NIYAZ!!!! 13.6 lbs is great!!!! I’m not seeing results fast as you but I’m gettin there. So far I’ve lost a total of 2 lbs -____- I think I need a new scale because it keeps lying to me.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK MAN !!

  3. Dude I tell my selfs the same thing, I kid you now I almost got “Just Do It” tattooed on my wrist last Friday. Its funny after you do it you never regret having done it.

    1. @Rory: I agree. For all of the build up in trying to ditch this gut, I kept putting it off for so long. Now that I’m actually doing it, and hopefully committing to doing it for my life, it’s so much easier to feel good and eat healthy than to eat like crap and be lazy.

I mean, I’m still lazy, but at least I’m losing weight, lol.
