I can’t say at this point I would never revert to my old habits of regular fast food nights and eating grease ’cause it tastes good, but for the first time, my entire philosophy on food is beginning to change.
I think it’s because the focus of my weight loss is less about exercise and more about eating, and because of that, I’m starting to understand that food isn’t something we put in our mouths because it tastes good, but that food is the substance that gives us energy and provides nutrients for our body.
I don’t just see a bacon cheeseburger as greasy, gooey, goodness anymore — I also view the meal as lots of carbs, fat and sodium. Good every once in a while, but not for everyday consumption.
Wifey Nadia and I were home together on a recent Sunday and it had only been an hour or two after we finished breakfast when I brought her a small bowl of almonds and half a banana to eat. “I’m not hungry,” she said, but I asked her to eat anyway because it’s not just about eating when you’re hungry, it’s also wise to snack between meals so you don’t overeat come lunch or dinner.
I think about what foods to put in my body (here’s a great list of daily foods) and even on my free days I’ve begun to order smaller portions, share bacon cheeseburgers with the wife and remind myself that just because it’s my day of reward, quality is a better reward then quantity.
As for the scale: Today I weigh 246.3 lbs. I weighed 247.3 lbs. last Monday, my fifth week of blogging. I started this blog weighing 258 lbs. That’s a total loss of 11.7 lbs.
I ate really well last week, both with the food I made at home and the meals I had out, but didn’t get as much walking in as I wanted. I’m going to make that a focus this week, but I’m not going to beat myself up over missed sessions.
I used to say I’d lose weight “tomorrow.” Instead, I’ll just make sure to walk today.
